Allyโ€™s Journey to Love: Navigating Relationships, Promises, and Self-Discovery

Ally woke up one morning next to a stranger in her bed. Feeling uneasy, she quickly rushed to the bathroom for a quick touch-up to look her best. Afterward, she made breakfast for the man and casually asked if he would attend her sister Daisy’s wedding with her. He declined and left without hesitation. Later that day, Ally received unexpected news: she had lost her job at the office.

On her way home, Ally read a magazine article about a survey revealing that 96% of women in the U.S. have an average of 10.9 lovers. Ally found this number surprisingly low, especially when she counted her own pastโ€”19 lovers. Determined to stop adding to this number, Ally made a decision to settle down and find true love.

At her sister’s engagement party, Ally drank too much and ended up sleeping with her boss, who then fired her. Following her earlier decision to marry the next man she slept with, she realized that she didnโ€™t want to marry him after all. How could Ally avoid adding to her “number” while still finding true love? One possible solution was reconnecting with her past boyfriends.

Her neighbor, Colin, promised to help Ally track down her exes. Like Ally, Colin had a casual approach to relationships, but despite his flirtatious nature, Ally decided not to cross that line. Sometimes, Colin would hide in Allyโ€™s room to avoid the women he was seeing, and Ally would pretend to be his girlfriend to help him out. This arrangement fostered a deeper friendship between them. With Colinโ€™s help, Ally started reaching out to her ex-boyfriends. While they all seemed more attractive than she remembered, it didnโ€™t change the reasons their relationships had ended in the first place. Still, Ally kept trying.

Her sister and friends warned her about Colin, suggesting that he was just like the other men she had been with. The only one left to track down was Jake Adams, a wealthy guy from Ally’s college days, but Colin couldnโ€™t find him. As Ally and Colin spent more time together, they grew closer, accepting each otherโ€™s lifestyles and quirks without judgment.

One day, Ally discovered that Colin had lied about knowing Jakeโ€™s whereabouts. She became angry and stopped speaking to him. Later, she met Jakeโ€”the “perfect” guy. He was successful, rich, and ambitious, but he didnโ€™t take Ally seriously and left abruptly during Daisyโ€™s wedding reception.

This experience made Ally realize that Colin was the only person who had never judged her. He appreciated her for who she was, without any pretense. Though their friendship had grown close, Colin respected Allyโ€™s decision not to sleep with him and add to her “number.” In a dramatic moment, Ally rode her bicycle in a dress, searching for Colin, and finally found him to confess her love.

The next morning, after waking up beside Colin, Ally received a voicemail from one of her exes. He confirmed that they had never had sex during their relationship, which meant Ally had stayed true to her promise to avoid increasing her “number.” Ally had found loveโ€”without breaking her vow.
