Head Over Heels (2025): High School Romance of a Shaman-in-disguise #428

Head Over Heels (2025) is one of those shows I didn’t plan on watching at all—I was literally dragged into it by the relentless Amazon Prime ads. So if you’re ever wondering how those repetitive, annoying ads work… well, they sneak under your skin and lure you in before you even notice.

The Cast

  1. Cho Yi-hyun as Park Seong-ah: Our heroine by day, masked shaman by night (basically moonlighting as a supernatural superhero). She looked super-cute both as high school student and kind-hearted shaman.
  2. Choo Young-woo as Bae Gyeon-woo: The broody transfer student with a cursed clock ticking above his head.
  3. Cha Kang-yoon as Pyo Ji-ho: The charming, supportive friend (and potential rival in the love race). Think of him as your favorite rom-com best friend—lighthearted, fun, but also… quietly observant.
  4. Choo Ja-hyun as Yeom-hwa: Not just mean, but mysteriously mean. Her interference adds a darker edge with supernatural sabotage.

The Plot

High schooler Seong-ah spends her nights as a masked shaman at her foster family’s shrine, tinkering with fates through spirit-cleansing rituals. One night, her visions alert her that a handsome visitor is destined to perish soon—shown in a creepy, upside-down vision.

That visitor is Gyeon-woo, brought to the shrine by his grandmother to seek help against his lifelong misfortunes. Seong-ah, instantly enchanted by his good looks, pledges to save him. But Gyeon-woo doesn’t trust shamans at all. To him, this masked girl could just be another con artist trying to rip off an unfortunate soul.

The next morning, surprise—Gyeon-woo shows up at Seong-ah’s school as the new transfer student. A fire incident at his former school already taints his reputation, and now the same rumors follow him here. Keeping her double life a secret, Seong-ah quietly vows to be his living talisman—for exactly 21 days.

Ghostly Escalations

Gyeon-woo is a trouble magnet. Wherever he goes, restless ghosts flock around him, and every single time Seong-ah rushes to his rescue. Gyeon-woo pushes everyone away, but Seong-ah—and her loyal best friend Pyo Ji-ho—refuse to leave his side.

Love Confession and An Evil Spirit Third Wheel

Just as the 21 days are about to end, Yeom-hwa (Seong-ah’s spirit sister—and possibly Gyeon-woo’s mother) targets him as the host of an evil spirit. Slowly, Gyeon-woo starts losing control of his senses to this entity, whom Seong-ah names Bong-su. Determined not only to save Gyeon-woo but also the lost soul trapped in darkness, Seong-ah bets everything she has.

In the middle of the battle, Seong-ah pleads with Bong-su to free her first love. Her heartfelt words spill into an unintentional love confession, and Gyeon-woo overhears it. Even Bong-su, hardened as he is, develops a soft spot for Seong-ah.

In her final gamble, Seong-ah takes Bong-su into her own body, disappearing from Gyeon-woo’s life. But fate twists again: Bong-su, revealed to have been a child soldier who died a lonely death, finally crosses over. With his departure, the curse lifts—and our two lovebirds find their way back to each other.

Final Verdict

All in all, I’d give the show a 7.8/10. The premise is refreshing for a high school romance, with its playful blend of teenage love and supernatural destiny. I do wish they had explored Yeom-hwa’s backstory more deeply, especially her connection with Gyeon-woo—it felt like a missed opportunity.

I really enjoyed the funny encounters between Seong-ah and the cheeky ghosts, which gave the show some much-needed comic relief. And Ji-ho? What a sweetheart. He chose to value his friendship over petty rivalry, and that made him shine even more as a second lead.

With only 12 episodes, the story stayed tight without unnecessary tangents or over-complicated side plots. Honestly, I preferred it that way. Sometimes short and sweet works better than dragging things out.
