January 2024 was a month filled with scattered energy, exhaustion and emotional baggage carried forward from the previous year. As my mother returned home from a surgery and my sister recovered from a sleepless hospital trip, stress enveloped the first week. Our cook’s erratic behavior led to her quitting, prompting me to take on additional responsibilities like laundry and medication management for my mom.
Despite plans for a surgeon follow-up, fever struck our household. While Dad recovered, I battled high temperatures, runny nose, and fatigue. My mother suffered the most with fever, headache and cough. The second week saw my mother’s health improving, while I fell ill again amidst starting my second semester classes. Feeling physically and mentally strained, I struggled with health issues and a sense of stagnation.
The third week intensified these challenges, leaving me feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Work consumed the fourth week, hindering my ability to focus on advanced classes. January concluded with a hectic work schedule, leaving little time for personal pursuits.
During the fourth week, my schedule overflowed with work, leaving me with minimal breaks. Despite attending classes, I struggled to find time for focused studying, a recurring challenge from the previous year when preparing for an AWS certification. In the final week, my father attended his childhood friend’s son’s wedding, highlighting their enduring friendship. In this busy month, characterized by family commitments and work engagements, I faced difficulty keeping up with advanced coursework.
Highlight:
1. For a considerable period, our neighborhood lacked a waffle joint, fueling my craving for waffles. Last year, I indulged this craving by purchasing a non-stick stove-top waffle maker and various ready-made waffle mixes. To my delight, I discovered that one of my favorite waffle shops now delivers to our hometown. Thus, I kicked off the year with two large assorted boxes of waffles, deeming the expense worthwhile despite the dent in my pocket.
2. When I was feeling really down I was binge-watching some shows on Disney plus Hotstar which I got a free subscription for 1 year. I watched 2 seasons of Dave, 2 seasons of The Great and also first 3 seasons of the Modern Family which was in my watchlist for a long time. I hope to share my thoughts of them in another blog.
Room for Improvement:
I aspire to restore order in my life, resume evening walks, maintain consistency in journaling, and carve out moments to deepen my connection with the divine.
