We started light, a playful tease,
A careless dance, a gentle breeze.
You’d speak of crushes, I’d return,
My heart just broken, lessons learned.
You, a friend, no threat in sight,
Slowly chipped away the wall so tight.
Hopes and dreams, whispered fears,
Hours spent with drying tears.
A date proposed, the future so bright,
But vanished like smoke in the fading light.
The joy turned to ash, a bitter sting,
Waiting, hoping, but nothing to cling.
Friendship’s facade, a smile through the pain,
Burning inside, a love in vain.
Silence grew heavy, a question unsaid,
“Where are we headed? These feelings mislead.”
Near and far, a constant chase,
A rollercoaster, a confusing space.
Cloud nine high, then buried deep,
Friends undefined, a love we’d keep.
“Just friends,” you declared, a freedom we shared,
Yet hearts ached for more, a love unpaired.
Flirtations with others, a dance undefined,
No strings to bind us, yet hearts intertwined.
Seven course meals, I craved in vain,
Settled for crumbs, a love in pain.
Starving for real, love’s tender touch,
Then came your call, with not so much.
A sudden shift, a change in the tide,
An offer of more, nowhere to hide.
But patterns repeated, a love half-heartedly given,
The echo of your past, a future not forgiven.
With love bittersweet, and fear understood,
I walked away, leaving what never could.
True love’s embrace, a lesson now learned,
No more breadcrumbs, a self-love I’ve earned.
Gone are the days of yearning and strife,
Self-love is the answer, a beautiful life.
